It’s just after dawn and we’ve just finished praying, reciting Al-Qur’an, and having a mini-halaqah. One of the verses that I came across in my reading this morning is a verse in Surah Yusuf (one of my favorite stories in The Qur’an) which includes a beautiful du’a that I plan to start saying regularly inshaAllah.
In translation the du’a says: “…Oh Creator of the heavens and the earth, You alone are my savior in this world and the world to come; let me die submitting to You, and place me among the righteous.” [Ayah 12:101]
Such a perfect du’a! It’s what every Muslim wants, to be devoted to Allah and to be counted among the righteous ones in The Hereafter.

Amin. Well one thing that marked me was a speech from a Sheikh: we know the 5 questions that we will be asked, hence why dont we prepare for it. Which is so true…
1-What have we done with our life
2-What have we spent our youth
3-IS our salat in order
4-How have we earned our money and what have we spent it on?
5-What have we done with our knowledge
I realized it is never too late and we can still prepare positive responses to these questions, inchAllah.

I love to recite the last 10 verses of Surah Al-Imran, the meaning is amazing when read with sincere intentions.

It is indeed a beautiful duaa, we should make duaa everyday to die in the state of taqwa, as righteous muslims. Amin. Just like Isra, I read the last 10 verses of Surah Al Imran after Fajr, it helps me stay focused on the important things in life. Very beautiful. I am a new muslim, I converted last year. Any tips or suggestions on learning recitation? I am having so much difficulty with arabic. At times I feel so frustrated I just cry, I have such troubles with memorizing surah’s and I have no one to teach me recitation. I just finished teach myself tashoud… it took forever. I want to teach my 2 children as well. Is there a good website that you know of to help? Jazzaka Allahu Kheiran.
christine – this website might help. When you open it click on the word reciter and another window will open with the image of the actual surah/chapter. You’ll be able to enter the surah you want and the verse you want. You also have the option of entering how many times you want a verse to be repeated. It’s pretty cool. InshaAllah I hope it helps.

In internet or islamic book u can find sura in translit, so u can write it down on the piece of paper and put near ur prayer mat!Start with small sura like 112,113,114!May Allah reward u for the efforts u put!
Absolutely, it puts everything into perspective and its an excellent start to the day.
Other short duas I have come across are:
-“O my Lord! Build me a home near You in Paradise” (At-Tahreem:11)
-“Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)” (Al-Imran: 173)
Christine don’t give up, Inshallah Allah will make it easy for you. I started learning arabic at a young age, however only recently when someone was listening to me reciting the Quran I found that I had a lot of work to be done in my tajweed. Because I am so used to my old ways, I find it really difficult! I have been recommended to listen reciters such as Al-Hudhaify, you can find him by browsing on the internet. If i do notice any good websites i’ll post them. Hope it helps :)
Very beautiful, I’m a new Muslim. I converted less than a week ago. I’m so glad that Allah has lead me to this website b/c everyone is so postive. I’m trying to learn the Quran in English 1st however I was told that I should recite the Quran in Arabic as soon as possible. Does anyone have any suggests of how long before I should start reciting in Arabic?

Praise to Allah for guiding you to him. I would suggest that you try and listen to some Qur’an recitation and try and read in both languages. It is important to understand what we are reading, after all the Qur’an was written in Arabic for the Arabs that it was revealed to. At the same time the Arabic has a special quality that is lost in translation. What a beautiful duah – reading the blog, and others lead me read the last ten ayaats of Surat Al-Imran after fajr, so jazak-aAllah khair.
I think fajr is an amzing time. It is so nice to wake up in the semi dark, knowing that you have defeated shaytaan, and pleased your Lord. Then to perform wudu, feeling blessed and grateful to be in a warm house in middle of winter, with hot water running freely from the tap, and making a duah in your heart for Allah to shower his mercy on all those who are less fortunate.
Then to pray the salaat, slowly and meaningfully, imagining that you are before your Lord, and feeling thankful for your health and vitality. I like to do zikr after fajr, reciting some of the names of Allah, and sending blessings on the holy prophet (SAW). Then I like to look out at the changing colours of the sky, pinks and lilacs, greys and blues, a touch of yellow. I take deep breaths, and feel happy to be alive and well, and pray to Allah to guide me through the day.
Then I like to do some stretches, either yoga (salute to the sun) or some vigorous jumping on my rebounder, which certainly wakes my body up! After that, I drink a glass of warm water, with a bit of honey and lemon in it, and go upstairs to get myself and my children ready for the day ahead.
It’s funny. Growing up, I used to think of salaat as a burden. But now I think of it as the most amazing me-time ever! How lucky we are to be able to pray five times a day, to have five chances of meditation, five opportunities to calm ourselves and gain a fresh perspective, five chances to ask for help and give thanks.

I almost cried when I read your post. It touched me so much because you said what I feel so beautifully. I’ve only started wearing the hijab about a month ago, and I am forever thanking Allah that he has opened my heart and guided me to the right path. Before, I was wayward, didn’t do my prayers, had a liberal lifestyle and basically, was living a lie. I am born a Muslim, but I felt like I am cheating myself.
However, one day, after praying Maghrib, I felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness and gratitude, because for all my sins, Allah still bestowed me with good health, money, loving family and a devoted husband. I was ashamed at myself.
And then, I stood up and wore the hijab and went out.
Everybody was surprised, shocked at my decision.
I have never looked back since. I now rush to perform my salaat and have even started to qadha the ones I missed. I am 26 years old, so I have a lot to repay. I pray everyday that Allah forgives me for my transgressions and that He strengthens my iman.

one of the most amazing ayahs i had read was last ramadan,i dont remember the surah,but that one verse summarises the whole process of embryonic developement.and this was revealed 1400 years ago,when there were no microscopes. Subhan allah:)
